A day in the life of Spoonful of Sarah’s microbiome

Self-proclaimed life-lover, Sarah Davidson, changed her life when she left the corporate world behind to adopt ‘funtrepreneurship’. A former lawyer, Sarah now inspires others on her podcast, Seize the Yay. When she first met the Premedy team, she completely “nerded-out’’, and it was love at first microbial interaction. A holistic health advocate who promotes her healthy lifestyle to her thousands of online followers, it’s clear that Sarah’s the perfect brand ambassador for Premedy! Let’s find out exactly what happens in a day full of Sarah and her ecosystem of bacteria…

Breaking free from corporate life and embracing entrepreneurship means you now juggle many hats, including social influencer, podcast host, brand ambassador, business owner, wife, dog-mum, the list goes on… So, what exactly does your typical day look like?

While my corporate life was very uniform, I love how varied each day is as a business owner. But there are a few things I structure my day around, as I’ve found it’s important to at least have some routine. I always start the day with a big breakfast and get on-top of my emails at a café to set up the day (either at our own café or another one of Melbourne’s amazing breakfast spots, we are so spoilt for choice!). I also try to fit in some movement to keep the blood flowing and support my energy levels; exercise is so important for the mind. I love yoga and walking our beautiful Golden Retriever, Paul, at our local park. The rest is totally dependent on whatever day it is and what meetings, admin work or event comes up from week to week.

How do you balance your busy lifestyle with looking after your health and wellbeing?

It’s always a bit of a juggling act, but I’ve come to learn that there isn’t really a formula for balance. I take a more holistic approach to my health, incorporating good nutrition, scheduled down time, and regular exercise into each week wherever I can. Rather than aiming to tick off certain boxes for ‘health’ like I used to in the past, I just monitor how I’m feeling and aim to support a healthy microbiome, manage stress levels and get enough sleep.

So how do you actively support your microbiome?

The past few years have really taught me how a healthy microbiome can support my general health and wellbeing. I eat a wide variety of green vegetables and complement this with high quality Premedy Daily Probiotic 15 to support a healthy digestive system and general health and wellbeing.

How exactly do you build nutrition into your daily routine to support your microbiome?

I eat lots of wholefoods and keep my diet varied and interesting. I increasingly focus on eating seasonally and paying attention to what my body craves at different times of the year.

Everyday stress can influence our health. What measures do you put in place to manage this?

Yes! It’s so important to manage our lifestyle and incorporate good nutrition and exercise. I use yoga and meditation for their calming influence in my life to relax, unwind and manage my stress levels. I also love playing with our dog and getting outdoors to shake off the day!

We all know exercise is super important to support general health and wellbeing. How do you find time to squeeze it into your day and how much focus do you place on exercise and where?

It can definitely be hard to fit everything in, but I also think we’re too hard on ourselves sometimes! You don’t have to do a full workout every single day; even the simplest movement can help your body – sometimes all I do is run around the park with Paul for 15 minutes and get some fresh air. Pets are also good for the microbiome, so I make sure I get lots of cuddles in!

What are your top tips to seize your microbial yay?

Aim for bacterial diversity to support your microbiome, maintain a high fibre diet with lots of variety, do what you can to keep your everyday stress levels at bay, and get outdoors (with your pets if possible, nothing like a pet cuddle to help you find your YAY)!
